From Andy Beall

Before we start the weekly posts of new art, as promised here are the wonderful drawings that were gifted to me by my friend Andy when he gave me the Batgirl drawing. Both pieces are production design drawings for the 1998 Warner Bros. animated film Quest for Camelot. Each drawing is signed on the back by Disney artist / animator Chris Ure (Big Hero 6, Frozen, Tarzan, just to name a few) and of course created during his time at WB.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the film. I think it’s actually one of my sister’s favorites. I was surprised to learn from Andy that they thought the film could have been so much better. Apparently, while there was great excitement at the studio for the project in its early days, some of the film makers at the very top of the production team were let go and the new creative forces changed the tone and structure of the story. It was also shortly after change in film makers that Ure left Warner Bros. for Disney. That interesting bit of inside trivia (and these two wonderful drawings) make me want to see the film all over again. Now I just have to find a copy. LOL!

Anyhow, huge thanks to Andy for not only his generosity, but also his friendship. It’s people like him that help make this hobby so much fun.

By the way, I should really apologize to all of you (Andy and Chris especially) for the unintentional cropping. The pieces were, unfortunately, a bit too large for my scanner. Will update the images at some point when I can get the extra section photoshopped.

(6/14/21) Thanks to my buddy Jonathan for helping me get a complete image posted. It was just a couple of inches off the top, but I still feel the piece deserves to be seen in its entirety.
