Nice page!
Love that first panel.
I remember this scene. Very Swamp Thing-esque with his watching the pool party through the bushes. The "finding the man inside" theme was so good. The whole crossroads arc coming next was a fun romp through the green behemoth's mind. Sal knocked it out of the park on Hulk. And Talaoc's inks looked great over Sal's lines. He gave the big, angry greeny the edge he deserved on the page. Great first Sal Hulk. Congrats!
My favourite panels in order are 3, 5 & 2, but the entire page as a whole is exquisite! I'm also one ofthose fans who absolutely despised Talaoc's inks, but every so often, later in his run, he would produce some really nice stuff, such as in this issue. He's actually quite a good painter these days and I'd say has definitely improved with age.
I remember this and gave it some thought, should have snapped it up. Congrats, great example from this arc!
Congrats on a first Sal Buscema Hulk page - love this!
Great storytelling flow here for sure. I never read Buscema's Hulk back when but I may as I am starting to appreciate his art as I see more and more great pieces like this on CAF. Very nice, indeed. Congrats, F!
Lots of great images of the Hulk!!!!
Wow, F M! I’d wager that for a significant slice of the population here on CAF, there was always a Buscema on some monthly book when we were growing up. For my best friend at the time, it was John on Conan. For me it was Sal, and Sal’s work on the Incredible Hulk. You have a lovely example here - panel 2 and its negative space with the Hulk in the crook of the tree is the killer for me (although panel 3 is a close second!) - with not only really great shots of the Hulk in every single panel, but really great shots of the Hulk as Sal and Sal alone rendered him; a signature piece! Really sweet pick up, F - congrats!
Très belle pièce qui évoque la puissance de hulk - bravo !!
Striking Sal Buscema Hulk page. I love the way each panel shows us a different angle. And each angle reveals more and more about Hulk's mood. Terrific visual storytelling.
Very nice page!
You are so right about the quality of inkers on Sal's Hulk run. I think Sal understood the craft so well that he kept adapting his layouts to suit the inker. Talaoc's gritty inking so suited a more bestial, hunched beast, and the framing on these panels was perfect for showcasing Talaoc's talents. Fabulous example from the run!
Fantastic classic panel set up and movement...with just the HULK.
Hard page! But I like it!
I'm a big fan of Sal's version of the Hulk, but when he shifted his style, I didn't care for it. Now that I'm not so young and foolish, I've come to really appreciate his later version of the Hulk. The layout on this page is fantastic, not the usual Sal layout that I was used too. I love that second panel of the tree outline. Great page! Congrats.
