I wasn't quick enough to snag the published DPS that Paul Pelletier drew for the return of the Hulk in issue 610. That amazing piece landed in fellow collector Fred Chamberlain's amazing collection.

Fast forward to a few years later when I opened one of the many art packages I bought from Paul. Flipping through the pages in utter amazement (as always with Paul's art), when to my utter astonishment I see this folded piece of art I don't recognize. Paul graciously and generously gifted this DPS to me and added it as a surprise in the package. I was shocked and amazed and gave him an immediate call to profusely thank him for the gesture. He knew how much I loved the published art, or maybe was tired of hearing me go on about it, and decided it's new home should be with me. He shared that this was intended to be the published DPS, but had another idea for the direction and layout for the pages. While I think he made the right call as the published DPS is perfect, I think this piece is also very well done and publish-worthy if he had decided to tighten up the rest of the pencils as he did on the face and upper body. I love the art, the gesture, and extremely thankful to have this as part of my collection. Thanks Paul!

Dave, this is absolutely stunning and incredibly awesome of Paul - he really is one of the nicest guys in the industry. Agreed, the published version is perfect but this would've made an imposing alternative. Truly surprised he didn't tighten it up and use for another issue or submit as a variant cover. Thanks for sharing!

There are lots of good stories about Paul Pelletier. Clearly, he's a great guy (and friend and artist!) This totally could have been published. It's a fantastic powerful pose, and wouldn't take much finishing at all. Another great Hulk piece for you, Dave. Double sized congrats!

Grand gesture for sure from Paul and this piece couldn't have gone to a bigger Hulk famm! Unpublished, sure. Does that take anything away from the RAGE in the image?! No sir! Congrats, Dave!

I've had limited experience with Paul, but just in that short email interaction with him when I purchased a piece from his website, I could tell he was a stand-up dude. Congratulations on this truly INCREDIBLE Hulk DPS!
