DescriptionPicked up this sweet title page from Black Lightning's first series. Black Lightning has come back home to the building he shares with tailor (and father figure) Peter Gambi when he encounters two thugs hired to track him down. Unbeknownst to BL, Gambi has been kidnapped by the villain Tobias Whale who has hired the thugs and the villain Syonide to bring down BL.Interesting that the early issues of BL show Tony Isabella as the sole creator. You can read more online with a simple google search of Tony's struggles to get recognized as such in the character's long history. Love this early work from Trevor Von Eeden who was only 16-17 years old when he penciled this issue from DC's first solo title to feature an African-American hero. Vince Colletta doesn't get a lot of love from fans but I actually like his fine-pointed inking style here. Social/Sharing |

Really nice title splash! The framing is great, and I agree - Vinnie did a lot of great work, and his inking here is ideal for showing the gritty underbelly of the urban landscape. Great page!

Oh boy, this is freakin' awesome. I discovered Trevor Von Eeden when I discovered Black Lightning. I saw Black Lighting #1 on the comic rack and thought, "That looks cool." I fell in love with both the minute I started reading.
Your collection of Black Lightning art is outstanding.
