Description“MODOK: Head Games” Issue 4 page 7Writers: Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt Artist: Scott Hepburn I have a special connection to this series. “MODOK: Head Games” as well as Marvel’s MODOK, the new series which debuted on Hulu is the Marvel Comic loving passion project of my dear friend, Jordan Blum. I have had the great pleasure of knowing Jordan since college. Wednesday Warriors through and through. Every week at Universe of Superheroes. It was there we bonded over our deep love of comics. No one’s love for the medium of comics is purer than Jordan’s. Since college, we have occasionally collaborated on projects and scripts. I am always happy to lend an ear and share my feedback. I am so excited to see the MODOK series on HULU make its debut. To see a friend, achieve their dream is an incredible thing. While he was developing “MODOK: Head Games”, an original comic series to be released in part with the HULU series (although this takes place in the proper 616 universe and not the universe of the show) and reintroduce MODKOK to fans Jordan asked me to read the outline and let him know what I thought. It was all there on the page. A deftly balanced action-comedy series Jordan and Patton brilliantly used the Grant Morrison method of incorporating all the iterations of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s ridiculous creation. One idea that I pitched him was at the end of the third issue when MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) aka George Tarleton meets his father, Alvin Tarleton, The Founder, I suggested that when readers first meet him in his idyllic suburban hideaway, we should see that he is beekeeping. As a founder of AIM this could be an influence on the design to their iconic uniforms, something which I don’t believe has ever been explained in Marvel’s history. Jordan really liked the idea and incorporated it into the issue. Jordan and Patton wrote a hell of a series that captures all the mad scientist lunacy of Kirby's creation. “MODOK: Head Games” was a coming out party for artist Scott Hepburn. Scott’s art has always had strong storytelling but this series he elevated his skills and showed us how good he is. Thank you to Jordan for his friendship and for letting me briefly contribute to the Marvel Universe. Social/Sharing |
