DescriptionSuperb and faithful ode recreation to Bernard Baily's final panel from More Fun Comics #53 (DC, 1940), by Golden-Age legend Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff. More Fun Comics #53 was the second part of the origin of the Spectre, created by Jerry Siegel (co-creator of Superman) and Bernard Baily, with this classic panel showcasing the Astral Avenger in his grim green cloaked costume of the very first time.The Spectre was the first, most powerful and the greatest of all supernatural superheroes, being granted his God-like powers by none other than the Almighty Himself. He was the lead feature in More Fun Comics, gracing some of the most classic and famous covers of the entire Golden-Age of Comic Books and was a founding member of the Justice Society of America - introduced by Gardner Fox in All-Star Comics #3 (DC, 1940). Herein, the Spectre makes his solemn vow not to rest until he rids the Earth from all criminal activities. A monumental task to say the least. Shelly even hand lettered the classic More Fun Comics logo as it appeared on the cover of More Fun Comics #53. Done in pen and ink with color marker and watercolors on heavy illustration board with image size measuring approx. 12.5" x 15.5". Social/Sharing |
