DescriptionA beautiful process sketch with rock-solid figure work and the prescribed allotment of clobberin’ required for a Ben Grimm study. A quick sketch, to be sure, but the energy that flows from the moment of Stuart’s inspiration here is palpable. Love the jagged lines and tearing metal...I also love how Stuart drew the wheel at the top of the page; just a few quick pen marks to perfectly capture the exact object in motion through space. 8" x 11". Thank you, Stuart and Felix! Social/Sharing |

Massive Uppercut! You have to love it when Ben does those. No, really, it's in the Collecting Contract. Read the fine print. As you know, I really like process, and these study pages are great. Especially when you get mitts from a master like Immonen. To capture the study moment, they always seem to imbue the image with extra energy, creating images like that. Super cool, Jason. Congrats!

In my humble opinion there is only way "correct" way to draw The Thing. He needs to be massive (both wide and thick), little to no definition of musculature and no discernible neck. It is my estimation that Stuart Immonen gets this. One of my favorite takes on Aunt Petunia's favorite.

Thanks, Chris! Like you, I love seeing different artists doing their take on Benjy, and absolutely agree with your criteria. You know a thing or two about it, let's say. You also know the extremes to which I love your Immonen 'New Avengers' Thing cover, and I feel SO fortunate to have scored this rocky dollop of Immonen goodness at the always-exciting / always-contested event that is a Felix art drop! Thanks again, Chris (and all) for the comments!

Is there anything Immonen can't do? Hello, Operator? This is Hulk's rival. Sayonara, tire!

The right foot really stands out as Immonen is not afraid to give us an up close of this twist to show Thing is punching with the power of his behind and his legs. What we see of the face makes it look like Ben's happy with this Street Fighter II bonus stage progress.

The beauty of preliminary drawings like this one is that more often than not, primarily because it's essentially a gesture drawing, the figure comes out looking as loose and natural as it's going to get. Even moreso than in the finished piece, because the need for tightening up the lines often results in a lack of the spontanaity that the prelim has. A wonderful piece!

Immonen is such an insanely talented artist, and his take on Ben is outstanding.

Immonen can certainly draw a mean (any)Thing. Super dynamic pose.

Wow! Now this is how Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew should be drawn. Great figure drawing by Stuart. He really is a master of his craft, isn't he?
