DescriptionJune 23, 1989 - 32 years ago, today, a certain movie hit theatres and changed so much about what a Batman movie could be. The comic adaptation drawn by Jerry Ordway was one of the first comics I’d ever read & man did that set the bar high for what a comic adaptation could/should be. Just wonderful. It was one I revisited many times over the years. A few years ago I was able to check a major want off of my mental checklist when it came to collecting art. I was able to arrange a commission by Jerry. My request was both an homage to the original cover as well as an homage to the final shot of the movie. Happy Anniversary Batman (1989).Social/Sharing |

That Batmania was everywhere and this image was on the newsstands along with magazines that had photo covers selling by the bundle. Fond memories of that summer and fall of '89 dominated by Batman inspiring a lot of people to jump into collecting comics.

Looks like this could have been ripped straight out of the legendary adaptation book. Great piece.

I don't think it's possible to appreciate the excitement surrounding Batman in 1989 unless you lived through it. You're right that Ordway set the bar high for what a comic book adaptation of a film could be, and I think there's a strong argument for it being the best movie-to-comics adaptation ever done. This was a great idea for a commission - congrats!
