DescriptionThis is a huge 18" x 24" commission that was done for me by the greatest X-Men artist of them all, Paul Smith. I requested the seven characters featured here (Smitty was kind enough to say that Kitty Pryde and Lockheed count as one character). Although I was just a toddler when Smitty had his one year run on Uncanny X-Men, it remains my favorite era of the book.Thank you to Paul for taking on this commission for me; it is now my favorite commission of all time. That's really nice! Love being able to see everyone's art on CAF, but I'm sure this is even more fantastic in person at that size!

Thank you, James! I was very pleasantly surprised when Smith agreed to do an 18" x 24" commission for me. The amount of detail he put into the piece is staggering.

When you look at this commission, it feels like it is 1983 again and Paul Smith has returned to the Uncanny X-Men.

My jaw hit the proverbial floor when I saw this. This is an exquisite masterpiece drawn by a master artist. It was criminal his time on the X-Men was short. Yet it's a reminder how damn good his short stint was as compared to what passes for dramatic storytelling these days. Congratulations on this beautiful piece.

Thank you very much, Dustin. As you note, Smitty's stint on the book was short but it has reverberated through the decades because of his draftsmanship and storytelling. I hope to see you at Terrificon in a few weeks.

He went all-out on this prelim for you. Super cool! Everything is so crisp and lovely. He clearly hasn't lost a step with these characters. I'd love to see Marvel put him back on the title for a bit. That looks so excellent. Congrats!

18x24??? Oh yeah. You've got to go panoramic for the children of the atom! Magnificent piece that's more than cover worthy!

When I asked Smity to draw an 18" x 24" commission for me, I was prepared for him to reject my request. But to my great pleasure, he agreed. You are absolutely right; the Children of the Atom need a panoramic canvas! Thanks for the comment!

Wow! Nice BIG commission for sure! All of the heroes look great, but absolutely love Wolverine in the foreground - so distinctly Paul Smith's Wolvie! Congrats!

This commission transports me back In time to my favorite X-Men run. This is a wrap around cover of a book in the library of the Dreaming (if I may mix companies). This is so much to love about it (especially the perfect Wolverine, the Cyclops pose, but I love the Rogue too, and of course Kitty and Lockheed-I'll stop before I describe the entire team and the excellent background). This piece is truly the crown jewel of your incredible collection.

Thank you, Shannon! This was my favorite X-Men run as well. With Paul Smith on the art, Claremont seemed to favor brevity and it showed up in the scripts. I like the idea of Lucien finding a book with this cover in the library of the Dreaming. Thanks, as always, for your kind words.

Thank you very much, Bill! I was very, very lucky that Smitty agreed to do this commission and just as lucky that this commission turned out the way it did!

Thank you very much, Matt! The Cyclops with his hair out was all Smitty's choice, and I'm very happy that he made that choice.

I can understand why this is your favorite commission. Smith's run on the X-Men may have been short, but we're still talking about it to this day because he's such an extraordinary artist.

Thank you very much, Michael! Paul Smith was and is a masterful artist. His year on Uncanny X-Men is one of the great comic book runs.
