DescriptionA moody atmospheric large art done entirely by Bill Reinhold for the Punisher Graphic Novel "Empty Quarter"! Page is too big for my scanner so there's even more to it!I'm a big fan of Bill Reinhold's work and he's a great artist at his base which also leads into his great ink work in some of my favorite works. This page has tons of effects to create a dynamic scene which makes one feel the sand in the face and difficult travels through the desert. I also challenge someone to show me a cooler depiction/rendering of a camel in Marvel comic art! Share camel links in comments to determine the prize winning camel. I simply think it's a beautiful page. Social/Sharing |

The effects are incredible. Are they scraping the surface to rough it up for that texture? The Sandstorm is strong, but the figurework and layouts are just as incredible.

That page is a combination of textures done with paper towel, of course dry brush, and lastly single edge razor blade to scrape out the skipping white lines. All at my attempt to replicate a sandstorm.

Love the clever analog techniques used to create these effects in comic art. I really think this page was masterfully done and seeing it in hand really gives you a glimpse into the craft you used to create it. I just bought Empty Quarter and will be giving it a read this week!

Just know that that book was printed pretty badly, as were other one-shots Marvel did at the time printed on bad paper where the blacks are faded causing color to overwhelm sometimes.
