DescriptionG.I. Joe: Frontline # 2 2002"The Mission That Never Was part 2 of 4" pg 7 Pencils: Dan Jurgens (Signed lower left) Inks: Scott Hanna (Signed lower right) Writer: Larry Hama (Signed lower middle) G.I.Joe: Frontline expands the action of the regular G.I. JOE series into another title, featuring a cast of rotating creative teams. Frontline allows us to see the G.I. JOE universe through the eyes of different artists, and of course, is full of action action action. The G.I.Joe flash back story continues! As the Joes attempt one FINAL mission to deliver a top secret weapon in Downtown Manhattan, DESTRO arrives to stop them. Cobra wants the new technology the Joes have, and will stop at nothing to get it! This fast-paced high action story is by none other than G.I.Joe godfather LARRY HAMA. In Georgia, Duke, Hawk, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Gung Ho get a ride on a Patrol boat from a Vietnam veteran. Destro arrives to chase after the Joes in a Condor, and informs Zartan that his services and those of the Dreadnoks are no longer required. Destro reports in to Cobra Commander, who is in the Silent Castle in Trans-Carpathia. Cobra Commander has a target practice session on B.A.T.s with paper cutouts of G.I.Joe team members' faces on them. Back in Georgia, Gung Ho tends to Hawk's wound as Scarlett talks to Snake Eyes. Scarlett dreams of fixing up the cabin, settling down, and having a family. At the Pentagon, the Jugglers discuss the Joes' situation, unaware that Cobra is still able to listen in on them. Destro catches up to the Joes, but Hawk calls General Colton who shoots Destro's Condor with the Rapid Pulse Particle Beam. Destro is forced to withdraw, and Cobra Commander orders him to land at Broca Beach for repairs. Destro attacks the Joes when they arrive in New York, and is able to steal the targeting module for the Rapid Pulse Particle Beam. A news crew videotapes the battle, but Colton confiscates the tapes. The issue ends with a tribute to the FDNY. Social/Sharing |

Larry Hama is a legend amongst GI Joe Fans of the comics, animation, toys, etc. and continues to write GI Joe A Real American Hero on a monthly basis as of 2021. His contributions in creating the backstories and the mythology in the comics have influenced all other forms of Joe media since issue 1. He really should get more comics recognition for taking an assignment no one wanted and building it to a property that endures to this day.
