DescriptionA new commission, art by Bambos Georgiou and based on the Byrne/Layton cover to Marvel Team-Up #72, starting a little sideline - the Golden Age Team-Up Project. For some time I've had the idea that DC might have missed a trick in the 1970s and 1980s by not making greater use of the Earth 2 versions of Batman and Superman as the lead in The Brave & The Bold and DC Comics Presents respectively, allowing for some team-ups with characters who might otherwise be difficult to feature. And inevitably my subconscious started working on it. What if, in 1983, as well as spinning off the Outsiders as a new book, DC had decided to keep B&B as a team-up title, but assign it to Roy Thomas as Earth 2 editor, as he then was? I'm kicking this off with a multi-part B&B story (I'd originally planned this as a five-part saga, but I wasn't happy with one of the covers so went looking for a replacement, and I now think it'll end up a bit longer than that), and my current intent is to then switch over to do some DC Presents issues before reverting to more Batman stuff - but don't hold me to that, because I might change my mind. I've asked Bambos to be the regular artist on this (he's fast, reliable and affordable) - though I might bring in a guest artist if I do an Annual in future - and I'm hopeful that these ought to be appearing more-or-less monthly for the foreseeable future. 1942 - and Gotham City's defence plants are hit by a wave of Axis sabotage! On the trail of the perpetrators, the Batman encounters mystery-man (and fellow All-Star Squadron member) Mr America. The two heroes join forces and discover that the attacks are being coordinated by the villainous Baron Blitzkrieg - but as they tackle him, the Nazi's super-powers prove too much for them, and they're captured! Only Batman's escapology skills save them from certain doom - but by the time they've freed themselves, the villain is nowhere to be found. The hunt for the Baron will continue - next issue! The classic cover manages a great balance and spatial relationship of all three characters. It's takes a keep eye to spot how much impact this would have for a commission idea. Well executed commission and revives the feel of the original.
