Description
Let's keep it going. Week three of cover month here at Shemp's gallery. A new cover every Sunday for the month of September.

Is an unpublished cover still a cover? In order to call a piece a cover doesn't it have to appear as a cover somewhere, otherwise it's just an unpublished pinup, or does intent matter? If it was intended to published as a cover but for whatever reason rejected, can it still be called a cover, albeit unpublished? These are the questions that keep me up at night.

JLA: Year One by Mark Waid, Brian Augustyn, Barry Kitson and Mike Bair. A retelling of the origin of the Justice league of America. Great group shot of the main players in this JLA maxi series. A self rejected cover by Barry. He changed the position of the Flash and made minor adjustments to Aquaman, Black Canary and Martian Manhunter. Personally, I think the Flash looks better in the unpublished cover as does Black Canary but Aquaman and Martian Manhunter look better in the published version, Green Lantern is a push. It's a great unpublished piece.

From 1997 an unpublished cover, JLA: Year One #4 by Barry Kitson.

Beautiful glory shot of tue League! And yes!...i believe a cover either INTENDED to be a cover or an image with the commanding almight of cover quality EQUALLY count as covers! But I know the latter is all perspective. Congrays on this inarguable over!

I vote that an unpublished cover is still a cover if it was intended to be a cover, and what an unpublished cover you've got here!  It's at least as good as what was published.

Yes, an unpublished cover is still a cover. And sometimes, even better visually than the published version :)

Without seeing the pubished cover again, I would have thought it was the published cover.  The tidy style Kitson used for this series was even cleaner than Porter and Dell!

Fantastic piece! I'm surprised Miki doesn't own this. Oh, and let me make this as clear as I can: INTENT is EVERTHING! A wonderful unpublished cover.
