Description
Tying memory to nature and visceral experiences like childhood play is a natural direction here and the tire swing juxtaposed against the ancient tree is perfect. The Dutch angle gives us a dizzying perspective and the memories nestled amongst the roots makes a great transition back to the action as we will see pick up as we continue into the story.

It's the scale that Perkins wants to emphasize here that is so strong.  Not only in the height of the forrest roof, but also the circumference and thus age of the tree as our lifetime is just a speck in its life.

Yes, I think Perkins' choice to shoot this scene from the bottom looking up is an effort to emphasize the immensity, age and perhaps also the "power" of The Green. That it has been around for far longer than anyone or anything else. Wonderful writing and illustrations!
