The city is just as dense with detail as the forest. Perkin's opening panel brings a fascinating visual break for the story and shows how Levi is between the two worlds.

The establishing shot of the densely packed city is in wonderful juxtaposition to the densely packed forest on the previous page, which I believe to be an allegory to Levi being caight up between his somewhat complicated and conflicted life in India and his struggle to figure out why The Green has chosen him to be its new avatar.
