DescriptionIn 1986 three episodes from Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" were cut together and released as a feature film in several countries (mostly european, since the show wasn't being aired here yet).The movie included Spielberg's "The Mission" (episode 5 of the original show, a WW2 fantasy drama starring Kevin Costner, Kiefer Sutherland and Casey Siemaszko), Robert Zemeckis' "Go to the Head of the Class" (season 2, episode 8, a voodoo horror teen comedy tale starring a hilarious Christopher Lloyd) and my all time favourite episode, William Dear's "Mummy Daddy" (season 1, episode 4), a funny horror comedy featuring egyptian curses, rednecks, frankenstein jokes and mummies, inspired by a real 1930's story, when Boris Karloff had to rush to the hospital in full Monster make up and costume to attend his daughter's birth. A London agency hired Jeff Cummins to paint the key art for the film. They sent him a VHS tape that included the three episodes along with a few guidelines, and he came up with this artwork. An unknown artist painted the final one sheet, which is basically an exact copy of Jeff's piece but fixing some details and improving some likenesses. Social/Sharing |

The high end anothology by filmmakers working in the TV medium was classy and first rate all the way. However, their disjointed themes and tone week to week made it hard to sustain audience interest against Monday Night Football or when put in the Friday night death slot (where Miami Vice only cracked the top 10 one time) in programming. This painting shows the great effort and expense made to promote the show as NBC was going all in with this concept.
