Enric Sió i Guardiola (April 5, 1942, Badalona- November 2, 1998, Barcelona) was a cartoonist, illustrator, photographer and publicist.
Along with other authors of his same generation, such as Beà , Luis García, Felipe Hernández Cava, Carlos Giménez, Fernando Fernández or Adolfo Usero (1941) he participated in the renovation of the Spanish comic, being habitually assigned to the group of «pictorial» style.
Sió's work is part of the currents that emerged in the mid-1960s among European comics authors who claimed the coming of age of the comic strip as a cultured and free art form.
He always considered comics as an art form comparable to cinema or literature, and his works seek an expressive and conceptual level far superior to traditional comics.
For this he resorts to complex graphic resources, deliberately varying his style, sometimes on the same page, to achieve an expressionism unusual in conventional comic strips.
The essayist Javier Coma included him among the twelve classics of Spanish comics in his 1981 work "And we went to make vignettes."
He has been frequently compared to Guido Crepax, with whom he shares style and narrative aspirations.
Strongly committed to the comic as an artistic expression, he disdained the traditional comic strip: "if I had to draw Superman I would shoot myself" he said in an interview.
In 1984, together with other cartoonists and intellectuals, he signed a manifesto against an exhibition in homage to Hergé, whom they considered infantile and reactionary.
