DescriptionIDW has been reprinting some early Usagi Yojimbo comics but this time colorizing them. However other artists have been providing new covers for these comics. David Petersen has been doing the covers for Dragon Bellow Conspiracy story. But his original art have been bought up quickly. I know because I have tried and, until now, failed to get one. No Usagi, but it does depict the dramatic fight where Gen realizes that he has misjudged the capabilities of his opponent, the blind Zato-Ino. A misjudgement that will have an embarrassing consequence for Gen.Petersen has a blog where he describes the steps he has taken in creating this cover. After finishing the main scene, he flipped the paper over and using a light box inked out the rain effects. I provide additional images of the back and, using Photoshop, the rain overlaid on the main art. However the rain effects were not intended to be depicted as black but rather as a mask. So I also provide an image of the final cover. Social/Sharing |

I've never read Usagi Yojimbo, but always enjoyed seeing the Stan Sakai art. Like everyone else, I'm not used to seeing art from this series done by anyone other than Sakai, but the Petersen art here still seems to fit nicely!

Fantastic cover, Harry! I was going to take a run at this one until I picked up David's cover from the prior issue. This does splendid justice to two of the great Usagi characters.
