DescriptionAs a young DC comics reader in the 60s, the "filler" gag pages by Murray Boltinoff were an almost subliminal accompaniment to the superhero stories I paid my 12 cents for, and now have a powerful nostalgic pull. I don't know much about Boltinoff, but he was a highly competent cartoonist who hit just the right tone for the young readership of the publishers he worked for. It's nice to see this dashed-off sketch for a typical gag page (which apparently appeared in Archie comics' "The Fly" #4 in 1960, though without owning that mag I can't confirm) that puts across the setting, characters and punch line with the simplicity and clarity of a finished product. If anyone can confirm (or deny) that this was in The Fly #4, I'd love to know!Social/Sharing |
