11 by 17 -some thoughts by Eric- ... “When I was in college at Iowa State University, I had what turned out to be one of my favorite teacher/professor, Richard Heggen. He had an exercise where we were instructed to take a photo of something we wanted to paint. Photocopy the photo of the subject, photocopy the photocopy and stop when we had something we wanted to paint. Especially back then the copier would make choices that moved a color, for the most part, further from the original and reduce detail. This is my experiment of that exercise today. I was watching Netflix Daredevil (I’m on season two) again (third time), and I saw this icon. As a straight up fan, I I just wanted to recreate the image. There was very little detail in the photo I took of the screen. I did the photocopy trick two times and started this painting. Another interesting tidbit, I was out of preferred art paper and all I had was some very old illustration board. Once I started to paint on it I remembered why I didn’t like this particular board, it’s hot press. I prefer texture to create on cold press. I thought it would add to the experimental nature to proceed."
