DescriptionWelcome back! Continuing the Keith Giffen birthday celebration.Happy Birthday to one of my all time favorite creators, Keith Giffen, born November 30, 1952. In 1994 Topps Comics produced a new series of books based on the creations of Jack Kirby. The KirbyVerse as it was known, was a mix of Jack’s creator owned characters such as Silverstar and Captain Victory and new characters Topps had developed. The titles did not last. I am not familiar with the Topps books or it's characters. What I am familiar with is Keith Giffen's art. I love this piece. It's a great example of the style I've come to associate most with Keith Giffen. You know it's Giffen the moment you see it. This is one of the rare non DC character pieces I have. I couldn't pass up a great Giffen piece, even when I'm unfamiliar with the characters. I'm not sure if it was ever published in full. A portion of it was published on the cover of Topps Free Comic preview and the original black and white art was published in an interview with Kurt Busiek in the Jack Kirby Collector #31. If anyone knows if it was published or any information I can add to this piece let me know. The Ninth Men: Bombast, Nightglider and Captain Glory by Keith Giffen and Jimmy Palmiotti Happy Birthday Keith! Social/Sharing |

Wasn't familiar with this title, but this is classic Giffen goodness. Congrats!

I definitely appreciate Giffen's art far more than the hideous character designs, that's for sure. Hey, maybe this is the first appearance of ThorGirl, Captain Amarshall Law and Large Visored Cyclops!

I don't think I've ever seen this before, but it's a full splash by Keith Giffen, so I automatically love it.

Great promo image! This one has all the earmarks of Giffen's style influenced by Kirby to come full circle promoting a Kirbyverse title after the King's passing.
