DescriptionFirst Wednesday post. Wednesday will mostly feature unpublished pieces and Sunday will be published. Continuing the Marvel theme started on Sunday.Mike Zeck is a legend, Spider-Man, The Punisher, Captain America, Master of Kung-fu, GI Joe, Batman, and Deathstroke the Terminator, he left his mark on all of them. Always loved his art, his cover runs on GI Joe and Deathstroke were awesome. I have never actively sought out Zeck art for my collection. Like everything else if I like it and it fits my collection I buy it. It's a testament to Mike's artistic ability that he made me buy a Captain America piece. Lol. I have seen lots of Zeck Captain America bust pieces, even full body pieces and never did I feel the need to buy one. This one is different. It stood out from the rest, the intensity of Cap's face, the bullets ricocheting off the wall and shield, it's perfect. Purchased 11/21 during Comic Art Live from fellow CAFer Mister O. All pencil with shading on a 11x14 board. Captain America by Mike Zeck Social/Sharing |

To be able to find what is essentially a head shot, but to be able to also call it an action shot, is fairly rare. So I'm not surprised this called to you even though it wasn't Jonah being fired upon!

I love Mike's work and you're absolutely right. There's something about this one that has that extra emotive oomph!! Nice touch with the ricochet crackle off the shield.

Zeck pencilled this to be more finished than if he was going to leave it for inking. Added nuance in the shading where there are textural differences for added emotion from the lighting.

That's a mean-looking Cap! No wonder you went for it!

I'm glad it has a good home. Scans don't do it justice.

Zeck's an absolute fave of mine, maybe my face if I had to pick one, and images like this are why. So much energy, and I'll take the name of his exhibition book to describe - RAW FURY! There are many a great Cap artist but he rises to the top for me. Like the subtle pencil shading, too. Congrats!
