After Crisis Supergirl no longer existed in the DC Universe, but the universe (not just the DC Trademark lawyers) needed, demanded a Supergirl.
So Matrix, an artificial being, was created in a pocket Universe by that universe's version of Lex Luthor to be Supergirl and was sent on a mission to recruit Superman to help save the Pocket Universe.
Here Matrix-Supergirl springs into action to save Superman.
The time has come..indeed!
