DescriptionPencil and ink sketch on 9 x 12 folded drawing paper. Probably drawn around 1982 based on the signature. I'll never be able to own a published John Byrne X-Men page so this drawing will suffice! Very pleased to have it in my collection. Thank you, Anthony!Social/Sharing |

does your daughter really want to go to collage? then I guess this will have to do.LOL still any xmen character from John is bonus points for someone's collection.

Study of fine art like this is an education in itself.

A Byrne X-Men piece is a Byrne X-Men piece. What makes it special has nothing to do with whether it's published or not. What makes it special is what it means to you. This is a fine, vintage, example with Byrne's signature linework on full display. Congratulations Bill.

From the great philosopher Etsy:
"The Phoenix in times of doubt and confusion, it symbolizes strength, transformation and renewal. For only in the ashes of who we were, we can rise up to become who we're to be."

Gorgeous Byrne Phoenix sketch. The dark shadowing of Jean's eyes definitely evoke memories of the Dark Phoenix storyline for me ... and it doesn't get more prime and better than that! Congrats on adding this amazing piece of art to your collection Bill!

A Byrne Phoenix is a Byrne Phoenix, even unpublished. Congrats, Bill!

Hard to beat JG by JB! Nice expression, and IMO, this is by far Jean's best costumed look. Congrats, Billigan!

My bet is that it's pre-1980. Byrne refused to draw Phoenix once he left the series, the only drawing I know after that date is one Byrne did to Austin where he added a note commenting the fact that he only drew it because it was him. Congrats on owning it!

Taking a closer look, I even dare to say that it's early Byrne in X-Men. At the end of his run he drew her skinner, this drawing has too many curves, like Byrne's style in 1977-1978.

That's a really nice depiction of most folk's favorite X-Woman!

This is awesome, Bill! (Love the sheen of the reflective gloves, as he drew in the comics...) A really cool piece spotlighting a signature character (and, by extension, THE storyline) he may arguably be best known for. Very special piece - sincere congrats!

Love this piece! Byrne's sketches from the late 70s-and early 80s are pure magic!
