DescriptionHappy New Year everyone! Welcome back to Shemp's Gallery. A new year means a new 52 pieces to be posted. Last year I focused mostly on published pieces, this year I hope to post more commissions, sketches and prelims along with published pieces. The last two years have been somewhat strange. No in person buying, everything online, which really doesn't do the art justice. Some pieces need to be seen in hand to really be appreciated. The WOW factor is just not the same in a scan that you get in some pieces when held in your hand. Commissions for me have always provided that wow factor, especially when executed perfectly. No artist does this more than Tom Grummett. Tom Grummett is a fantastic artist. His drawing skill, his design, his ability to understand the characters is brilliant. He has become one of my favorite artist and his commissions are a big part of it. So for the month of January I will be posting the 5 commissions I received from Tom last year. The Marvel Family by Tom Grummett. Beautiful piece by Tom Grummett. I simply asked for Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr and I received this stunning piece. The classic Marvel Family and the Rock of Eternity! Such a great piece! Love the black background (that's a lot of inking) which makes the Marvels just pop! My thanks to Messrs Hamm and Grummett for putting up with my crazy ideas and for delivering a beautifully drawn and executed commission. Pen and ink on 11x17 board. PS. That smudge is not on the art but part of the scan. Social/Sharing |

Rise up, gather round
Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up, let's go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke

Tom has a classic, comic book style that combines cartoony (faces) and realism (anatomy), which lends itself perfectly to just about ANY character he draws, whether 1st or 5th tier. Beautiful piece!

There is some obvious joy on the characters' faces that's really nice

Upward perspective gives a heroic vibe but those smiles really bring a hopeful one! Love that. Congrats!

Love this take on Captain Marvel - gives the character a Golden Age feel while still being modern.
