DescriptionWelcome back! A new year, a new beginning, a fresh start.Week two of Tom Grummett appreciation month. Tom Grummett was everywhere in the early 90's and deservedly so, from "Titan's Hunt" to "Death of Superman" to the launching of both Robin's and Superboy's ongoing monthly, he hits the sweet spot in my comic reading days. I read them all. He was a prefect fit for each. To quote Ruben DaCollector "Tom has a classic, comic book style that combines cartoony (faces) and realism (anatomy), which lends itself perfectly to just about ANY character he draws, whether 1st or 5th tier." I couldn't agree more and to prove the point... Batman & the Outsiders by Tom Grummett. Batman, Halo, Geo-Force, Black Lighting, Katana and Metamorpho. I only read a few issues of the baxter series as it was ending and of course I read the Outsiders/Infinity Inc crossover specials but I always liked the characters. The idea that Batman would quit the Justice League and form a new team was just super cool. I didn't have any Outsiders art and I wanted a team piece, so naturally I turned to Mr. Grummett. He knocked it out of the park. So good, it should be a cover. Pen and ink on 11x17 board. Social/Sharing |

Shemp, this is terrific. It's the perfect piece for Tom's style but not one that I would have come up with.
Thanks for sharing.

Great one that has the team dynamic of New Titans as Grummett considers the black and white plus color schemes of these characters and positions them so they don't clash and balance out.

I don't know if I'm hallucinating, but it seems to me that Grummett's interpretation of the team is somehow a nice balance between Aparo and Davis. A truly excellent piece!

Its better than a lot of the original covers of the series and its spinoff.
