Description
I am happy to add this fantastic example of Segar at his best. This is the first daily in a new story line and includes an early appearance the Sea Hag. It was the final panel that sold me on this one, the cigar gag is a classic. I won this on a cut bid and would have stopped there and full expectations of being outbid. I was talking with a few friends on line during the auction and was all ready to say "close but no segar" on this one but never got to use it.

I've had some conservation done to the art. It was mounted on a board which I had it removed from. The glue stains were removed and the zipatone reapplied (original zip). It was also deacidified so it will last another 200 + years. See additional images.

Very nice to see how a new adventure was set up as there weren't any rules established on any of the storytelling.  It is like a preamble to begin the storybook.

Love these old Thimble Theatre strips. Segar concocted the strangest stories and told them with a language all his own. Great example of a classic strip!
