Description

More peak Kurt Schaffenberger Supergirl, this from the May 1970 issue of Adventure, story "The Girl Who Knew Supergirl's Secrets". The Flash-like (or Duchamp-like) multiple images of Supergirl in the top panel is the flashiest thing about this page, but to me Schaffenberger's way with hair is always a treat: Supergirl and Jan share the "blonde waterfall" hairdo, though Jan's bad-girl bangs distinguish her from Supergirl's upswept girl. The whole composition is anchored by the glistening hi-lit black of Linda's wig in the bottom three panels, and the young man's stylish early-70s 'do gives the two blondes a run for their money!

Very charming good girl art that we often take Schaffenberger for granted. Although he throws in a bad girl look in the last panel. Supergirl stories were just as fun as Superboy adventures with Linda facing villains and people trying to find out her identity. The multiple images are such great imaginative work!

I have loved artwork for speedsters with those superspeed images left behind since I was a little kid and first started reading comics with the Flash ... I'd question if there is another page for Supergirl displaying her super-speed like this first panel and what a treat to see it so beautifully crafted by Schaffenberger.
