DescriptionCouldn't have just one page from this story, so I grabbed another, also in the body horror vein, so to speak. I love trees in life and art, so here again I choose to view this as a positive spin on an otherwise horrific event. Sherriff Dom provides some scale as he skedaddles. One of the things I love about this series is that every page is alive with activity and organic motion. That's tough to achieve with such a photo-realistic style, IMO. Perkins has really figured it out! Thanks again to Rubén for getting the page to me in great shape, and thanks for taking a look! Here's Rubén's thoughtful take on this page: "A wonderfully terrifying scene featuring the Pale Wanderer, who after just having eaten Swamp Thing's "heart", appears to feel something odd in his throat and then throws his head back screaming as green vines, creepers and tendrils begin to sprout from his mouth, neck and chest, until he is seemingly turned into a Banyan tree! Is he dead? Can these effects ever be reversed? Will we ever be terrorized by the Pale Wanderer again? Only the future can tell...." Social/Sharing |

Another fantastic page from this story! The methamorphosis is just spectacular and in this case the colors really add impact and drama to the original art.

Thanks for your comment, Davide! I agree that color really adds a lot to both this page and the other I just posted, especially when the art's reduced. Viewing them up close, I love 'em in B&W! As we've discussed before, part of what I love about comics is that it's one of the few remaining artforms that is sometimes published in B&W, and nearly always B&W in it's original form.

Like a sherrif that flights
Runs from the battle
I know the face of banyan tree
Perkins brings us some frights
Consumed by the shadows
Art was bought immediately
Somehow I made it through the heartache, Levi did
I escaped (ahaha)
I found my way out of the swampness
I kept my faith (I know he did), kept my faith
When the writing was deep, I didn't falter
When the emotion was high, The skilled Ram V
When the artwork was sold it didn't stop me, no no
He knew I was commenting
Knew you were waiting for me, uh huh

I can't wait for the album, Marcus! By now you must have enough material for a box set of CDs (do they still sell CDs?). Maybe a dedicated steaming service for art themed tunes. CAF needs some incidental music

I predict CDs for the next generation will be known as PFTs (phony funky tunes). Compressed will no highs or lows, much the way people will be, and not to be played so loud as to wake the neighbors. It will almost be like owning the real thing ;)
Beautiful page by the way. Putting the 'H' back in Horror!

This was such a brilliant scene! The only problem for me was that I LOVED the introduction fo this character and felt he had a ton of potential to hang around in the Swamp Thing mythology going forward, so I spent the next 8 months hoping he wasn't dead and wishing he'd return. And now, he's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! I Love it!

A beautiful, dynamic page from this wonderful run, artless! Awesome pick up. And not only is it another sterling example of the next-level work that Mike is turning in on this title, but considering this is the page where the Pale Wanderer turns into the Banyan tree, it kind've has folkloric ramifications, too... We"re just a blue ox short of having Pale Banyan and Babe! (No? Too "dad jokey"? :) ). Still, we can agree on the marvelous add to your collection! Great pick up - congrats!
