It was -- the theme music, the fun plots, the tongue-in-cheek approach to the spy game, the attractive cast -- a classy show! They needed one more season with Tara King/Linda Thorson, who was only 20 in the year that she appeared, which was the final year of the series. Both the character and the actress were coming into their own as formidable entities (Ms. Thorson appeared on Broadway a few years after her Avengers gig and won a Tony Award.)

Patrick Macnee and Linda Thorson were reunited in-character as Steed and King in 1975, five years after the series ended, for french champagne commercials. The commercials were so popular that it led to The New Avengers, but, unfortunately, without Linda Thorson. Check out the image I've added from one of those commercials, with Steed in a nehru jacket and Tara in what looks like A Clockwork Orange ensemble. Talk about fashions that represent a period of time!
