Description

This one caught me by surprise by turning up unexpectedly quickly - a second entry in my "All-Star Squadron covers which never appeared" collection. As revealed in the back of All-Star Squadron #65, Jerry Ordway penciled a cover for issue #11, but then-editor Len Wein had already asked Joe Kubert to draw the cover, so Ordway's version was stuck in a draw for several years, eventually seeing print as a pin-up as the series was ending.

As with the alternate cover for issue #45, which I posted here in January, I thought it might be fun to have Bambos Georgiou redo the pin-up as an actual cover, complete with logo, DC bullet and corner boxes - and he came through for me superbly!

(My guess, looking at it, is that Len Wein might have decided to use the Kubert cover - at least in part - because the layout of the Ordway version does obscure the title more than DC would have liked at the time --- but I still think it makes for a fantastic cover.)

It would have made people do a double take to see why they obscured the logo. Very dramatic with the heroes and the White House in peril!
