Impulse #10 pg 14

Mark Waid’s Flash run is “MY” Flash, and my favorite storyline from that run is Dead Heat. I really loved the idea of Savitar being a student of speed, and the art for the Flash issues was done by the underrated Oscar Jimenez.

Dead Heat crossed over between The Flash and Impulse, another speedster-based book Waid was writing at the time. Impulse featured art by an early in his career Humberto Ramos, and you could tell right away he was headed for big things thanks to his fun, exaggerated style.

While I enjoy the sequential storytelling of this page, what really puts it over the top for me is that last panel. Between the use of red ink for the speed force energy and the great “Ride the lightning” line of dialogue, I get goose bumps from the memories this page brings back for me.
