Description
This one is REALLY special to me. For folks who suffered through my Comic Art LIVE interview, you may remember my saying that my first recollection of comic books were a handful of comics my sister bought me back in the late 1960's when I was sick in bed with the mumps. Among those books was Hulk 121 and Dr. Strange 183. I loved those comics and remember being scared crazy by the "Undying Ones" that appeared in Dr. Strange 183.

Flash forward MANY years and local comic art collector Lee Benaka visited my place for a comic art geek out. Lee brought a portfolio of art as potential trade material and this splash was included. Needless to say, my jaw hit the ground when I saw this one! Lee kindly agreed to trade it to me and did not even rake me over the coals to get the deal done!

I am very honored to be the caretaker of this particular piece of art and, needless to say, it's never leaving my collection while I am still breathing!

Many thanks to my sister for planting the comic book seed in my young mind and also to Lee Benaka for allowing me to recapture a very meaningful bit of my youth!

Ah, (or should that be aaargh!) a good old raking over the coals. Having suffered several, am glad it did not happen to you and what a great piece of artwork.

Lee is one of the good guys in this hobby!  I've not been so fortunate in some other dealings!

How great is this?  I remember having this issue, and was similarly terrified of the Undying Ones.  I still think it's a high water mark for Marvel's storytelling, but they never finished the story!

I'm so glad this unusual and striking splash has ended up with someone who has a personal connection to the art and story.  Jim, you are one of the nicest art guys around, and it has been too long since we have gotten together.  You were kind to part with some nice pages in exchange for this splash, so I was happy with the deal also!

Congratulations Jim!

It is great when a historically meaningful piece is also this beautiful.

Know you will enjoy this for years.

And I was actually present at Jim's house to see this art trade.  It was a thing of beauty watching two heavyweights of the hobby work out the details.  :)
