Description
I imagine most people who see this card instantly think it’s referencing Rob Liefeld. it’s actually an example of Dula Luck.

It’s been a long-standing bit of Dula Luck that I get mistaken for other people. Race, color, gender, nationality….I could tell you only a third of the times of my experiences with mistaken identity, and you’d call me a liar.

Back in 2013 I saw Tony Moore was doing an appearance at a comic store, said store indicating he’d be taking commissions while he was there. I broke my rule of asking friends to assist me with getting artwork, and inquired to a friend who lived near the store if she could get a piece of art done for me. She happily agreed.

It turned out she had to work the day of the appearance, and sent her husband in her place. It turned out that Moore was doing just sketch cards, not commissions, and only Deadpool, Venom, and a character I can no longer recall. My friend’s husband decided he’d get me a sketch card since he was there, and at the moment he was asked who the card was for he forgot my name, paused, and then said “Rob?”

So Tony Moore made the card out to “. . . Rob?” And my friend’s husband related the misadventure to her, who relayed it to me.

I pulled this out of my storage and thought I’d share it for three reasons:

1. About a year after I received the card I found myself being marched across the building complex I worked out to “explain myself to out client.” I was led to a teleconference room, and once I was introduced our client wanted to know why I had been brought, as they wanted to rake a coworker named Rob over the coals, not I.

2. I have a family member in the hospital, and earlier this week I got into an argument with the receptionist, as she was adamant my name was Rob and not Ralph.

3. I recently had my Facebook account of 18 years locked for suspicious activity, with Facebook requesting ID to prove I am me. Despite sending four separate forms of ID they claim none of them prove I’m me. Since I’m going to lose a vast number of pictures I only have stored there, I may need to find someone to make a “Rob Dula” ID to see if they recognize that as who I am.

Baby, oh
Even in my art I see
You signed it Rob to me
Moore's markin' Deadpool I feel
Ralph's not like it used to be

Meetings I wish they'd fire Rob, not I
Receptionists as it may seem
But I wish I could so bad, Robby
Rob's playin' games with my art

Quit playin' games with my art (with my art)
Facebook will tear you apart (my heart)
Quit signin' names on my card
I should've known from the start
You know Rob's got to stop (on my art)
Moore can't tell us apart (my art)
Quit playin' games with my Ralph
