Arrow Hero of Star City

When I was asked to do an Arrow commission, I thought it was a dream come true because it was one of my favorite shows. I had completed two previous Arrow pieces, the largest got complimented by Longbow Hunters artist Mike Grell himself. But when it comes to the hood, I'm all for hitting the streets of Star City with the man in the green hood. I decided on a composition that would show both sides of Oliver Queen. I also decided on the final suit since it evoked Grell's design moreso than the earlier iterations. To that end I poured over dozens of reference photos of the costume to get it right, and I also found a cosplayer photo to give me the PERFECT pose. As to background, initially I was going to set Ollie on a fire escape in the rain. Obviously, this idea evolved over time until I came to the conclusion of the final rooftop Ollie stood on in the final episode of season 8 in that flashback. Etched on 11 x 14" Canson with mixed media, I accomplished a Green Arrow piece that I hope will knock my client's socks off. You can check the development of this sketch in my Step By Step Gallery.
