Wanted to take another crack at Jon Bogdanove's MAN OF STEEL #18 cover pencils again in a darker/grittier way. Inked one recently as a commission and later in my mind I kept seeing a darker vision of it. But, I was asked to ink that as I normally would.

I don't think I can completely capture what I saw in my mind, but I need to stop and leave it be. I fiddled around in Photoshop on the pencils beforehand as an experiment (adding more shadows and tones) in a quick/crude fashion. There are aspects of THAT I like better.

THIS was rendered over printed bluelines of the pencils on 11 x 17 board. Being loose and gritty doesn't come second nature when I ink, but it was fun. I wanted it to be creepy and Doomsday coming at you from the shadows.

Dennis Janke inked the original and THAT was a great help as reference. Dennis is a better overall artist than I am.

So, not a true cover recreation...my take at a grittier/darker ink job.
