DescriptionChronologically, this is the second to last piece drawn at Lake Como Comic Art Festival 2022. The show closed at 5 pm on Sunday (and about thirty minutes later, everyone was gone), yet Spanish super star & Blacksad co-creator Juanjo Guarnido finished this commission at 6:30 pm for me. The troopers at Essential Sequential stayed late, to finish up Juanjo's list.On Saturday, Juanjo took a long list, which I barely made. I wasn't surprised as his table was getting swarmed all throughout the morning. But I was on it! Yet his list was maybe a bit too long, as on Sunday, he didn't even sign any books & was zoned out while listening to music, working on his pieces. That's how it came to be that my piece was not done by closing time (which was not a problem for me). When I looped around after 5 pm, Juanjo asked me to not stay at his table, as he wanted to put his best work into it & felt he would do better when there was no one around. What an artist's artist. After drawing for almost 10 hours straight, he could have phoned it in, but he refused to do that and wanted to keep on delivering the excellent quality he's known for. After this one, he still had one more to do. Considering Juanjo's getting kind of hard to get commissions from, I consider myself extra lucky. Size is a whopping 11x17, too, instead of the usual smaller sized pieces. Social/Sharing |

Created with care and in his signature brushwork! His animation experience and influence in creating Blacksad is evident in pieces like this that tell a story with just a turn of the head.
