Osamu Tezuka The Devil Garon published color page 1960

From the dawn of mecha. Tezuka introduced the android boy Tetsuwan-Atomu (Astro Boy) in 1951. In 1956, Yokoyama's Tetsujin-28 introduced the first remote-controlled giant humanoid robot weapon. The Devil Garon, serialized in Boken-O (Adventure King) from 1959 to 1962, not technically a mecha (he's a sentient machine being from the stars) nevertheless presents the image of a robot carrying a boy passenger, a decade before Yukio Izumi's Big Machine (1967) and Go Nagai's Mazinger Z (1972). Tragically, Garon has never been translated into English. See additional image for the published page, which is probably closer to how the colors looked when fresh. It's a collecting dream to acquire this page from the God of Manga, which now sits in the first small circle of my collection. If anybody knows who these fish-head guys are, please fill me in! Garon: “Pick [the boy’s name], it’s dangerous. Get inside me.”
Garon: “GAROON!!”
Fish Head guy: This is great. Garon is coming our way.
Garon: What are they doing?
Fish Head Guy: Yes. Launch it [Let ‘er rip]!
