DescriptionMy second ComicLink win. Although I don’t know if you could call it a win if nobody bids. Sort of like coming in first if you’re the only one in the race. LOL!
Anyway, I’ve ignored my Disney gallery for quite a while. So I’m thrilled to be able to add such a fun piece to the collection. My Mom tells me that 101 Dalmatians was the first Disney movie I ever saw, but when Jungle Book came out 6 years later, I was mesmerized. Of course, it instantly became my favorite (and remained so for 24 years until I saw Beauty & The Beast in 1991). This piece depicts a wonderful scene in the film when elephant Colonel Hathi discovers a man cub (Mowgli) among his ranks during inspection. The linework and details are wonderful. And the scope of the scene belies the actual paper size (about 5x5). In other words, it really looks a lot bigger than it actually is. Again, just so happy to add this unappreciated gem to my Disney collection. If they all look like this, I’ll take all the auction throwaways I can get. LOL! Social/Sharing |

Its a sweet drawing. Who cares what anyone else thinks? You live with artwork you buy. Price does not equal enjoyment. My favourite piece of artwork only cost me about £100.00 sterling. Its priceless to me. Others would say I overpaid.

Dammit, I should have come up with that line! Probably would have, if this was a Baloo and Mowgli piece. LOL! But thanks for being clever enough for the both of us.

If you bid on art do you know what you'll give?
Odds are you won't like what it is
When the art arrives would you be pleased Mowgli
By your merciless eyes on receipt?
I've seen jungles fall that Kipling writes
But you yourself loves anything Disney find
Just in ink line
Arm yourself because no one else will outbid you
The odds will be with you
They're looking for Babloo
You can't deny this prize will forever fulfill you
It longs to thrill you, are you Colonel Hathi?
The coldest blood runs through your veins
You'll bid again

My favorite Disney movies have a lot to do with what was allowed to be broadcasted in TV in the 80's in Italy... strictly on national TV and during the Christmas holidays, you had the chance to enjoy some Disney animated movies, but they were only a selected few (Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, The Sword in the Stone, Dumbo...) and unfortunately The Jungle Book wasn't there, so it's something that I watched many years later... nevertheless, the last animated movie produced when Walt was still alive is really enjoyable and yet another fantastic achievement of the Nine Old Men :)

Thank you for the wonderfully informative comment my friend. Can't even imagine what it would be like not to have access to these classic films. But I'm glad you got to see it eventually. So good to hear from another diehard Disney fan.

in the end, it took some time, but when the VHS (and DVD and Bluray and streaming) came, I watched them all, even the more "obscure" ones ^_^
but if I need to mention the Disney movies I got to watch as a kid, that obviouly also left a sort of "imprinting", that should be either Robin Hood of The Sword in the Stone, and I believe it's the same for many people that were kids in the 80's here... not surprinsingly, these 2 movies are particularly loved here in Italy also today (even if they're considered "minor" elsewhere) :)

That's a lot of nice detail crammed into a small piece! I'm with you, who cares if it's uncredited, it's a perfect recreation of the cartoon styling. And it's a great moment to get, too. Getting great art, that speaks to you, is what this is all about. Even better when it doesn't break the bank. :) Congrats!

You picked a good one to be your favorite Disney film as a kid. This is a fun drawing. Huge congrats!

This is great, Eric. Take all the "easy" auction wins that you can - especially these days! :)
The Jungle Book is a really special one to me, too, because I came to it very late. I didn't get to see many movies as a kid, and it was my then girlfriend (now wife) who took me to see it when it was re-released to theaters in the 90's. She had been raised on the classics, and was really chuffed that she got to share that magic of her childhood with me when we were both young adults. I'm forever grateful!
Do you know where / if this piece was published? I'm thinking a storybook, or one of the 70's book and record sets? (I'll run this past my wife to see if she can ID it... :) ). Congrats, Eric! I always loved the good Colonel! :)

Wow! What a great story, and what a wonderful way to be introduced to the film. I think it's absolutely perfect that you ended up marrying the person who exposed you to this beloved gem. Talk about Disney magic. Your wife wouldn't happen to have a sister, would she? LOL
