This rather imposing Gulacy example is a perfect study of light and shadow. It was published as the front cover to Marvel Comics Presents #51 (for back cover, please see next image).
I had been eyeing this set of covers for some time in Roger Clark’s FOR SALE gallery and finally contacted him late last year to try and acquire them. Unfortunately the timing and the numbers didn't quite work out then, but last month I gave it another crack and everything fell into place.
Whenever I look at this piece, I am reminded of the countless times I've watched that scene in movie after movie where the hero comes slowly out of the shadows into the light, usually accompanied by some moody piece of the film's score.
I am a huge Gulacy nut, so it's a real pleasure to be able to add this to my collection. A great big THANK YOU to Roger for making it happen!
