DescriptionI should have posted this over a week ago when I first found about Tim's death, but was too emotional to post anything at that time. So just sharing a quick story now about how I first met Tim.2003 was the first year I attended SDCC. I remember being in Stuart Ng's booth, looking for some cool hardcover graphic novels to buy. I saw a hardcover copy of Superman for All Seasons in his booth (which I hadn't read at that time), and attracted by the art, I decided to buy it. So I had the book on one hand while looking for other books to buy. Then a stranger goes up to me, and asks me with a smile, "Hey man, you want me to sign that for you?" Confused, I asked him what he meant. Then he told me, "Oh I'm Tim Sale, I'm the artist of that book you're holding!" Needless to say, I had him sign my book and had the first of several photos taken with him over the years. Tim was always friendly, genuine, and just a really nice guy without any airs about him. And I always gravitated to buying more of his art after that first meeting, because as I am sure it happens with many CAFers out there, it's so much more enjoyable buying art from artists who treat you nicely. Another legendary comic book artist who left us too early. By far my favorite artist when it comes to someone using ink wash. And in this piece, he just shows how much he is a master of it. You will be greatly missed, Tim. Social/Sharing |

Both characters in shadows and within the brickwork of this atmospheric old town cobblestoned alleyway adds the classic pulp flavor to the cover! The wash is Sale's painterly artist side holding all the elements together.

A positive interatction with an artist augments aqcuiring any of their work 10 fold. Just as when reading a great personalized description on CAF when someone posts a new piece. Instantly you are happy they got it.

Beautiful remembrance. He's one of those artists, that, the more I studied the more I learned to really appreciate. His style was so different and pieces like this are shining examples of why he was a master.
Thanks for sharing.
