Description

Over the past months, reading the many stories of how George Perez moved and inspired us with his art, each story was very familiar - he made an impact on me before I knew his name - I just knew that I was drawn to all the books he drew, be it Teen Titans, Batman, or one of the Event books from Marvel or DC. If George was drawing it, I was picking it up off the stands and reading it.

Eventually I became conscious that the connection between the books was the artist and many years later when I began collecting comic art, it was a must that I have something from the man who drew me into so many books when I was a kid. I owned the Batman #438 cover but sold it for financial security during uncertain covid times. Of course I regretted parting with it but we can never see the future. I just resolved to find something I liked just as much.

When I came across this cover, I made an offer immediately, waited with anticipation, and though it is quite sad to say, the deal was finalized on the very day George’s passing was announced, just a couple hours before. It was a terrible coincidence. But I was glad I didn’t need to live without a beautiful piece from the artist I had long admired. The outpouring of love for the man is so deserved. RIP George. He was such an amazing talent and this cover is so exceptional, I feel very blessed to be its caretaker now. I’m sure some day it ends up in a museum.

George did some astounding covers for New Teen Titans. This certainly is one of those. Congratulations on bringing this into your collection!

Yeah, life has a strange way of dropping strange coincidences into our laps. But I'm glad it worked out that way, as it gives you a certain connection to George that you'll always be bound by for as long as you own this cover. It is a fantastic piece of work, to the surprise of absolutely no one. Kudos on getting back a GREAT piece after having to part with another one, Jonathan. It's a real beauty!

Perez at his absolute best. Nothing about this cover is even close to easy and yet he makes it all look effortless. As if every piece just naturally fit together beautifully.

Stunning cover to the New Teen Titans by a Titan of Comic Art--George Perez. The cover depicts the battle of wills between Raven and Phobia of the Brotherhood of Evil, as they face off in the realm of the mind. Who but George Perez could take such a concept and make it work? Wonderful cover! I'm glad you a such a fabulous example of Perez's work.
