Description
Wonder Woman 122 was published in 1997.
This cover is similar in design to the actual cover on the issue that was done by John Byrne.
Not sure why this was done as John was also doing the interiors.
Perhaps John had not committed to doing the covers and DC had this one (and the other) commissioned before John decided to do the covers.
Depicts Wonder Woman, Champion, Zeus and two goddesses.

It's nice, but yeah, strange that this would be commissioned by DC with Byrne at the helm, even stranger that they'd commission a cover from two unknowns. The art looks like Deodato though, so I wonder if these two guys were a part of Deodato Studios. An interesting curiosity, nonetheless.

Yes, Mota was part of Deodato Studios.

See the Notes on this Journey into Mystery 504 cover.

The cover to the following issue # 123 was done by Deodato Studios and the next two by José Luis García-López even though Byrne was still doing the interiors. Apparently John couldn't keep up with the covers.

Aha, then it makes a lot of sense after all. I guess Byrne ended up having the time to do one for this issue so they scrapped this one.

Since you been gone
I feel the job's Mota's today
Zeus took down the knight
And Byrne is gonna turn in late

All I saw was job to take
How much more editors pay
Why can't you use this cover
Why can't you go get the art that's fast

When art comes around babe
The art needs a second chance
I'll put cash down babe
Can't you see it's still good

Since you been gone, I've been in a trance
This art needs a second chance
Won't say it's cover
Still say it's a good buy
