Description

There are only 19 Starman covers by Andrew Robinson, who I thought should be represented here in the Opal City Historical Society as one of the more iconic artists of the series. I’m never going to get one and there are several reasons for that.

Thus, I took the opportunity to commission Mr. Robinson, and in doing so chose to represent an important, but overlooked “Starman” of Opal City - Sheriff Brian Savage of Turk County, once known as Scalphunter (and father to Steve Savage, the "Balloon Buster" of WWI). It's kind of an opposite take on his cover to 74, both directionally and tonally - rough and loose, versus "gussied up."

The red pencil undersketch gives it a nice tonal detail.

And note the exercise of proper trigger discipline.
