Just a grand romantic gesture from a guy to his best gal: writing her name in fire across several adjacent skyscrapers, including one belonging to Wayne Enterprises. Is that a hand in my pocket, or... oh, it is a hand in my pocket. It must be love!
Atchley is excellent with likenesses but on this piece chose to focus on architecture and body language. He first created this page in a fully rendered pencil version, then painstakingly replicated it in detail with colored markers. All of his works take their titles from rock song lyrics, including this one referencing Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower.
The more I scrutinize this work, the more I like it. Easter Eggs abound. Note the Watchmen sticker on Joker's bazooka; that series referenced this same song. Another sticker says "I heart Gotham City." The big fiery 'A' forms an anarchy sign due to a circle behind it. Atchley's large white signature in the bottom left contains a similar 'A', but there's also a smaller black signature directly below Joker. Buildings in the middle distance are aflame at their windows, with smoke issuing from the air vents on the roof. The firelight causes the two figures to cast shadows toward the reader. I'm especially impressed with the multicolor effect of the flames and smoke, near and far.
