DescriptionThe beauty of the hobby is its diversity. I have always enjoyed so-called vintage and more modern comic art alike. Indeed, as the old saying goes, time and tide wait for nobody. So what is today's modern comic art becomes tomorrow's vintage comic art in any event. Such is life. What matters, in my view, is the quality of the artwork itself, regardless of when it was drawn. The lesson is clear: embrace what you like, and buy what you love and can afford. So when I came across this page, in addition to its obvious beauty, it also reminded me of a Ditko ASM page I had inasmuch as Spidey was drawn in a style that was so reminiscent of Ditko. The Ditko page can be found here:https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1761361 As if confirming the symmetry of the so-called vintage and modern, Spidey is hear dodging - in his own inimitable way - a bullet discharged from the rifle of Kraven the Hunter's son! Further symmetry also occurs in relation to the artists themselves - Mike Deodato Jr did the pencils and the inker is none other than the great veteran, Al Milgrom. This is the title splash to this issue. It is a truly beautiful one. I hope that you will enjoy it. Social/Sharing |

Love the dynamic action on this splash!
Many thanks, West! As mentioned, that is what drew me to this particular page. It is very Ditkoesque.

Wow, this is truly a Spectacular Spider-Man illustration! So incredibly dynamic and full of energy. Usually he evades the bullets, so it's actually quite striking to see that one of them actually found its mark and seems to have gone straight through his left arm! Absolutely splendid work by both Deodato and Milgrom, and a phenomenal addition to your already amazing collection!

No wasted space in this splash! Looks like there's danger all around with bullets, cars, elephants, and those pesky splinters. Splinters are the worst no materr if they are from fresh or vintage wood.

Many thanks, Marcus! I totall agree with you on splinters - when I occasionally received them as a kid, it was really traumatic.

Fantastic full page splash with a great acrobatic Spidey! I have a fun panel page from this issue, with Spidey vs elephant.

Thanks so much, Tyler! It is truly a spectacular splash and, as mentioned, reminded me of Ditko's rendition on the page I currently have.

I couldn't agree with you more about art, and that good art can be in any form, vintage, etc. That's how I collect - I buy what I like and can afford - nostalgia based, aesthetic based, or whatever makes a piece appeal to my eye. And this piece REALLY has a ton of eye appeal and is one of the better Spidey pieces I have seen in a while (to my eye, at least). I would have snapped this one up as well - great catch CAB, this is a stunner!
