No. That is not a friend. That is some kind of scary dominatrix.

Is a friend someone who keeps asking you to check out his new art studio, but then drugs you and chains you to a makeshift plywood pillory in the basement, to ensure a bountiful harvest by means of ritual sacrifice to his malevolent elder gods?

No. That is not a friend. That is this guy Steve that I know.

Is a friend someone you respect and share hobbies with, help when you can, and who unexpectedly sends you a Black Widow convention sketch by Paul Renaud, brightening your day?

Yes. That is a friend. It’s the third one. The other two are figments from some kind of half-remembered masochistic nightmare.
