Description

A nice character moment page with great variation of shots and angles from Steve Lightle.

I love how he made the mountain gear believable here, especially in panel 1.

It's also fun how he mirrored panels 2 and 3 with an inverted close up on a googled face. The third one is superb, almost over rendered.

Panel 4 i strangely close to abstract which is a nice contrast from the previous one and may explain why Lightle used silhouettes.

Panel 5 is my fav' for its delicate rendition of emotions of the concerned friend for his sick friend. The expert shadow placement really enhances that feeling.

Panel 6 is perfectly staged and moody (I mean, the whole page is well composed but the staging is particularly well done here). It reminds us that we are located in the mountains where it's cold and when any situation can become dangerous for all.

The last panel concludes the argument as to how to deal with the sick member.

The thing I like best about this page is that Lightle pushed his experimentation with this newer approach even further, foregoing the usual smoother, slicker lines and taking more of an organic inking approach, closer to a Janson or anyone else in that vein. Simply because it strays so far from what we had been used to seeing from him up until this point.

Another great page from this issue, F M. I love how overexposed this one feels to me in the "open" panels - like snow blindness on a bright day. Lovely spare background details in panel 6 here - my favorite on the page. Beautiful storytelling! Congrats, F M!
