Hey, nice job you teenager, you!
You were in high school in 1986? I subtracted using my abacus and the answer was man, he old.
I graduated in 1983. How old be me? : - )
For mature readers??? Did your Mom know what you were up to? I bought it for the articles mom I promise.
Well at least I appreciate you using such a fine drawing to make me feel old. By 1986, I was eight years OUT of high school. LOL
Very impressive!! Thanks for sharing this one! (And like Eric, I too now feel quite old).
The Chaykin comic was the epitome of cool in 1986. You accomplished a great alternative take on it with style and swagger by dropping the color and making it look more noir and pulpy. Uzis were the rage in the mid 80's!
Now that is cool. Draw it again now and lets compare teen you to present you!
Great piece of highschool memorabilia. I have some photoclass photos that I developed in a darkroom, but no Shadow cover recreations. Love it.
Awesome portrait that does justice to the bold, classic Shadow cover and a wall-worthy addition to you collection. Great pickup Rick!
Very nice work, Rick! My sophomore year as well... :) Did you actually tear part of the page away and mount it on another board? (It sort of looks like the right hand side of the piece has torn paper there...?) Wish we had gone to the same high school - I didn't know anyone who was reading the same comics as me, and we would have written the GREATEST amateur comics together... EVAR! :). Nice glimpse into your process in 1986. Cool stuff!
Thanks all!
Yes Jason, the right side was unintentionally torn (I like how it ended up resembling the Shadow's side profile)
That would have been awesome to have had a like-minded comic reader buddy back in the day :)
Hi Rick,
I have a photo taken in 1986 in my bedroom with the Chaykin promo poster from Shadow #1 hanging on my wall.
-Tom
You have some skills. This is very well done.
This is sharp! I loved Chaykin's Shadow and you nailed it.
