DescriptionA Spidey doozie with Lizzie!!I always love any cover where Spider-Man is battling one of his classic villains, especially when it's penciled & inked by the fantastic artist who drew the story leading up to the Superior Spider-Man title as well as many issues of the title itself. Stay away from those deadly reptilian claws, Spidey! (Though you have some impressive talons yourself). Confession: When I first saw this cover, I thought Spidey was sticking his hand down the Lizard's throat, but then I realized that Spidey's hand is actually grabbing Lizzie's snout. That's the Lizard's tongue! Either way, a nice huge image of these two long-time foes. Social/Sharing |

Spider-Man versus the Lizard! Battling one another since 1963! (Issue #6--I looked it up!). Always a bonus to have a key villain on the covers you collect! Great pick-up! Congrats!

Was going to tease you about hitting your Ramos Spidey cover limit, but I was afraid of the backlash I would get about all my Art Adams pieces. LOL

Yeah, the "arm into tongue" is what's known as a "tangent", one of the big no-nos in art. But the reason they often make it into print is because the artist either doesn't notice it or they do but can't afford to redraw the cover because of it. As tangents go though, this isn't as bad as some others I've seen, because my eyes saw the image correctly and I didn't notice it until I read your description. Thin Lizzie looks somewhat Mike Golden-ish circa the 1990's, which is interesting. As you say, I too love covers where he's fighting the classic villains!

There's a good chance that like you, most people see the image correctly right away. And of course this particular "tangent" goes away when you see the finished product in color, which is probably why it wasn't considered to be an issue whatsoever. I imagine a lot of potential problematic tangents get 'fixed' in this way. For me it's kind of fun because I can read the black & white image in two different ways. Kind of like that famous optical illusion where you can either see an old woman in a hood or a young girl in a fancy hat with her head turning away. In this case, is Spidey trying to push his foe's snout away to avoid those nasty chompers, or is he searching for his car keys that he may have dropped down the Lizard's gaping maw? It's a mystery...

Kind of reminds me of the Spidey #4 cover by McFarlane from the nineties. One bite and our friendly neighborhood Spidey is reptile food! Killer cover

Ramos is hit or miss with me, but this one may be one of my favorite Spidey covers he's done. It's certainly top 3. I really love the huge images of both characters and his design of the Lizard is fantastic! He's almost more dinosaur, like a velociraptor. Soooo cool!

Love seeing Humberto's Lizard as we really didn't see it at all in the earlier years of his Spider-Man work! Classic face off shot, and like how BIG the baddie is here. Pure Ramos magic. Congrats!
